Meet the teams: Cefuc Gaming
UCLouvain has always been a big competitor in the Belgian Student League. It is the largest French speaking school in Belgium with more than 35,000 students, so it’s only natural that there are many passionate gamers who want to show their skills on the big stage! But the Cefuc Gaming we know now is not the same as it was a year ago. Bigger ambitions, more skilled players and a very strong community. We have just seen the tip of the iceberg of Cefuc Gaming.
In previous years, players of Cefuc Gaming had to come from the schools in Louvain-la-neuve, but UCLouvain also has a big school in Mons: UCLouvain FUCaM Mons. This year they merged both schools into one big gaming association: Cefuc Gaming. Even before the merger they were a force to be reckoned with, but now they are becoming a contender for the championship!
French <3 League of Legends
Everyone knows that French speaking people and League of Legends are a match made in heaven. The BSL experienced this immediately in the first season. Cefuc Gaming and Ephec Sports came out guns blazing and destroyed every opponent they met. In a very exciting final, Ephec defeated Cefuc Gaming and took home their first BSL Championship. This was an amazing achievement for Cefuc Gaming if you look back at it, knowing that Ephec also won the next 2 championships. After losing that first final, the team split up and there was a roster switch. The next years they tried to reach the playoffs, but with two fifth places they were just not good enough. Something had to change.
And something did change! After the merger with UCLouvain FUCaM Mons, Cefuc Gaming is back! They have put together a new squad with players like MrDonkhi, Brûce, TxHiyu, ZoroYele and TWS Guirlande. The new team showed right away that they are here to win. All this ambition and new strength led to a great second place in their group, but in the quarterfinals they met Howest, who were just a bit stronger.
We talked to the president of Cefuc Gaming, GiaNT, and the captain of the League of Legends team, MrDonkhi, about the future of their new League of Legends team: “In the next few years we want to create two rosters of five, find new coaches, build a real team, a real project! Not only for the BSL, but for all gaming events in Belgium. We want to become a big organization that participates in all kinds of competitions!”
We wish them good luck for the future.
Rocket League Trouble
With the return of Rocket League, many teams are still searching for the right players. This is also true for Cefuc Gaming. Two of their main players left the team just before the competition started, so they had to find capable replacements. They managed to do that after a while. Now the team consists of the team captain Anti, Youuriiz and TT. With only 6 points, it was not the best season, but GiaNT explained us the reason: “Our Rocket League team has a lot of potential, but they do not have time to play together. One player cannot play during the week and the other cannot play on weekends, so it’s very difficult to find time to practice.”
We hope they find the time they need so they can show their true strength in the future.
FIFA
Cefuc Gaming has the very strong, well known FIFA player of KAS Eupen, Uliks Polloshka, in their ranks. He made it to the third place in his group, right behind Jonas_ DC and Pharaon. Uliks is a force to be reckoned with and we believe he has the potential to win it all this year!
“At the beginning of the year, Cefuc Gaming did not really have a FIFA player”. GiaNT told us. “Until I got a message on Facebook from a guy asking if he could play for Cefuc Gaming. We looked him up online and immediately told him he could join. That man was Uliks. So we are very lucky to have someone like him competing for us!”
Future
The future of Cefuc Gaming looks very bright after the recent merger. They want to expand the association. They want it to be bigger and better than ever before. It’s going to be a real project, but GiaNT is confident it will work out! With 2 LOL teams, a well oiled Rocket League team, a very strong professional FIFA player, and a fearsome Valorant team, Cefuc Gaming is back and stronger than ever! We can not wait to see what they have in store for us, and we wish them all the best for the future!
In this week's #ThrowbackThursday, we have another exciting clip from the 2018-2019 #BSL final between @EPHECeSport and @Cefuc_Gaming (@UCLouvain_be).
